USB-C cable wattage is a ceiling, not a promise that a laptop will charge at that rate. A 60W cable can suit a MacBook Air and many everyday setups. A 100W-class cable adds headroom for larger chargers, other devices, or a future laptop. A 240W cable is useful only when the charger and device can negotiate that higher level.
What the labels mean
Power delivery depends on the cable, charger, laptop, and any dock or hub. The lowest-rated component limits the result. A high-watt label also says nothing by itself about data speed or video. Keep power, data, and display claims separate.
Which should you buy?
- 60W: low-cost, short cables and typical Air charging.
- 100W: a flexible default for many USB-C laptops.
- 240W: specific high-power cases; not an automatic upgrade.
